Here are some common sense tips. While recording a session or guest interview with a digital recorder or microphone, use these tips:
- Avoid jarring or bumping the digital recorder or equipment while in use
- Hold the recorder or microphone about a hand's length from the subject (podcaster)
- Start the recording a few seconds before the interview begins, and continue recording a few seconds after it ends. This makes editing easier as the extra time can be trimmed off.
- Have the subject introduce themselves on the recording, and spell out their name.
- Remind the guest to speak clearly and articulate their words.
- Record a separate segment for each subject. Separate file are easier to edit later.
- Take a picture of the subject if you would like to include one with the podcast.
